We were happy to see Leica attempt a mirrorless DLSR alternative. But we just can’t get behind this product. 24MP is too low for such an expensive camera. The lenses are big and expensive. There is no in-body image stabilization like Sony and Olympus and Panasonic have. If money wasn’t an issue then we could see why people would dabble into this system but for most of us financial considerations are relevant and that’s where this camera doesn’t make sense. A fully kitted out system with lenses will put you into the price of a vehicle range.
The Leica S Medium Format DSLR Camera (Typ 007) was announced in 2014 and is reportedly being released in the not too distant future.
In addition to having a 37.5 megapixel sensor that is medium format size, it also shoots 4K video. This camera sells for $25,000 and is available for pre-order with no firm release date set.
