Our only source of unconfirmed reliability has stated only two pertinent details for the rumored new Sony FS5 Mark II:
- Same sensor as the FS5
- 4K 60P
Time will tell…
News, reviews and rumors about all things 4K.
The autofocus appears in-line with reasonable expectations: better than the GH4 but not as good as the Sony A6300/6500.
The biggest unknown remains the autofocus which will be better than its predecessor but still likely not good enough. Knowing this the camera remains a good value on account of its image quality and other features.
And clearly the best GH5 video released to date:
And a blast from the recent past:
Please note that V-Log was used for this video, along with glidecams and some seriously wide lenses. But wow, for a $2000 camera it’s hard to fault the image quality.
Cinema 5D made some comments recently about the GH5 and its 10-bit capabilities. We should encourage debate and not punish alternative views, however if one is not careful in the statements they make there may understandably be negative consequences.
Our favourite overview of the issue comes form Jarred Davidson (below) but also note that EOSHD has an article on this subject too.
Given the size of the sensor, we don’t see anything to complain about with this noise performance. Definitely an improvement over the GH4. The Sony A7s II is still the go to choice for low-light, but the GH5 appears like a better all-a-rounder to us. And this is without the forthcoming firmware enhancements that should improve the image quality.
