The XC15 is an improvement over the XC10, but the foundation was kept the same (poor ergonomics and uninspiring lens) and that is a large part of the reason that the excitement for this camera remains low.
This video focuses on the benefits of IBIS. Depending on how you shoot this will be more or less relevant to you. If you pair the GX85 with a lens that has IS, like Panasonic’s 42.5mm F1.7, it really is amazing the stabilization that is provided.
With the Panasonic GH5 on the horizon with internal 10-bit color the comparison will be very different in half a years time or so. For right now, both the GH4 and A6300 are good options in their price range with the GH4 having superior ergonomics for video shooting and the A6300 having the edge in video quality.
As you will see in this video the Canon is a disappointment. We truly believe improved color and codecs are on the horizon for the next generation of models so we are waiting out a lot of the 8-bit cameras but at these prices all of these options are viable if you need something right now.
Well, that’s good news if true. In addition to the claim of IBIS also being stated is:
- Full size HDMI
- One stop better sensor performance
Autofocus remains the big outstanding question.

With the Panasonic GH5 being several months away, perhaps even half a year or more, the Panasonic G80 is an interesting soon to be available choice (October 25). This may be the poor man’s GH5.
Here is what is confirmed for sure about the Panasonic GH5:
- 4K at 60 to 24FPS
- 4:2:2 10-bit internal video recording in 4K at 30FPS and less
- Coming “Early 2017”
The lack of mention of any IBIS is a surprise to many.

Mirrorless Camera LUMIX GH5 Featuring ‘6K PHOTO’*2
Panasonic today announced that it has developed a new Digital Single Lens Mirrorless (DSLM) Camera LUMIX GH5 that is capable of recording smooth, high-precision 4K 60p/50p and faithful 4:2:2 10-bit 4K video*3 for the first time in the world*1.
It also features ‘6K PHOTO’*2 which extracts approx.18-megapixel still images from ultra high-quality video with approx. 9 times the pixel count of Full-HD. The new LUMIX GH5 is scheduled for commercialization and introduction to the global market in early 2017.
Panasonic has been committed to the development of innovative digital cameras under the theme “Create a new photo culture in the digital era.” The world’s first Digital Single Lens Mirrorless camera DMC-G1 was introduced in 2008*4 and the subsequent DMC-GH1 achieved the world’s first Full HD video recording in 2009*5.
