The New Sony RX10 Mark III

Sony’s been on a roll releasing new products. The Sony RX10 Mark II fell short for us as a video tool. It had a lot of potential but at the end of the day the image quality wasn’t good enough at 4K for our purposes. We’re hoping the Mark III remedies this.

The Mark III features a 1″ 20mp sensor and a 24-600 F2.4-4 24-600mm lens. 4K is limited to 30FPS and less. It’s expected to be available in May for $1500.

We are okay with the global shutter being removed from this camera. It would have been nice to have, but the whole point of this camera is the 15 stops of dynamic range which would be significantly reduced in the global shutter mode. Small amounts of rolling shutter are not a terrible thing either as they help to get that film look.
